Muscular Development Magazine: Devoted to the science of Bodybuilding

In January 1964 Muscular Development Magazine was launched.  In this post I provide the cover, an editorial by editor John Grimek and a list of well wishes and congratulations by a host of bodybuildings elite on the launch of the magazine.

John Grimek goes on to state the AIM of the magazine: “In launching this new bodybuilding publication MUSCULAR DEVELOPMENT, we hope to bring forth a new concept of bodybuilding features to the interested bodybuilder. It is the desire of all associated with this new publication to help fill the void that exists in this ever expanding field of weight training  and bodybuilding… and this is OUR AIM.”

The magazine has always been a favourite of mine as it  provided coverage of athletes that were not under the IFBB umbrella. If not for this magazine a large portion of bodybuilding history would be lost to the audience of today.

I was fortunate enough to be gifted a copy of this first edition in mint condition.  In fact, it is believed the copy I have had never been read before making my experience a special one.  I will feature this very magazine in the Library of the website in the upcoming days.

In the meantime please enjoy these extracts….
